You’ve got the dress, you’ve got the date set, now it’s time to really plan the actual wedding day! One of the most important things to take note of when choosing your wedding photographer (hopefully me!), is to have good communication. Having a good rapport with your photographer insures that you both know your expectations and needs for the day. But what do you need to discuss? Here are a few things that I recommend discussing with your photographer before the big day.
- Timeline- How long will the wedding ceremony take place? Is there a long gap between the ceremony and reception? Where would you like your photographer to be during the day? Will you be having a cake cutting, first dance, etc? Having a set timeline is one of the most important things to discuss! It really helps the photographer know if they need to be rushing from one shot to another, and to be prepared for those moments. A helpful tip is to discuss this with both your wedding planner and photographer together, so that everything is coordinated perfectly.
- Specific Shots- If there are important moments you need to have documented, make sure the photographer knows! Sometimes in the rush of things, the bride forgets that she wants her special brooch photographed, or a shot of her grandfather dancing. Make a list of the specific and unique shots you want so that the photographer knows!
- Group shot list- getting groups together for a photo is extremely difficult. Everyone is so excited to see the bride, nobody listens to the photographer, or there will be the random cousin that nobody can find. Make sure everyone knows where they need to be, and what time, so that the photographer can quickly take the necessary group shots, and then everybody can go party! Getting the group shots done right away really makes everyone happier.
- Location changes- Make sure to let the photographer know if there are different addresses for getting ready, for the ceremony and for the reception. Especially if each location takes time to get there, and if they need to arrive early. We don’t want to miss any shots running around trying to find each location.
- Concerns or questions- Finally, make sure to let your photographer know if there are any concerns or questions about your photos and your wedding day. We are here for you and want to make sure we discuss everything so that you are comfortable in knowing that your wedding photos will come out beautifully!
