  1. Location.  If you want a true sunset photo, the best places would be to head West or Northwest.   (Leeward area or North Shore)  The Eastside won’t have a sunset, but there is a chance for colorful skies if you choose that area.  Some of my favorite places for amazing sunsets are Nimitz Cove Beach, Ko Olina, Papa’iloa Beach, Turtle Bay, and Loulu Palms.
  2. Timing.   It takes careful planning to make a great sunset photo happen.  First, make sure to take note on the time of year, because the sunset ranges from 5-7pm depending on the season.  Ideally we would like to get there at least a half hour before the sun sets to get out and shoot and to make sure we take advantage of the changing light!
  3. Variety- Even with the sun going down, there are a variety of shots we can achieve to get different looks out of your session!  Silhouette, sun flares, dark dramatic skies.  It is so much fun to play around with!  Just by changing positions, we can get a wide variety of looks for your session.
  4. Stay and Play!  When the sun goes down, we can still get a few last photos!  The 10-15 min after the sun goes down gives the sky a very dramatic look.  The skies turn a gorgeous shade from pinks to purples to blues!  It is the perfect opportunity to get an epic photo!
