Bridal tips series- Walking down the aisle

father of bride walking down the aisleIf you ask any newlywed out there, they would probably tell you that one of most memorable parts of the wedding is the walk down the aisle.  It’s that defining moment for a bride, her last walk before getting married, and seeing her future husbands face light up while seeing his bride in all her glory.  Who has watched the royal weddings and seen Kate and Megan walk down the aisle?  I admit I was mesmerized by their weddings, and their audience was too!   It can be both memorable and nervewracking for the bridal party!  So here are a  few tips to remember when its your turn to make that walk to remember!

  1. Keep your eye on the prize!  Stay focused on your groom, and make occasional eye contact with your friends and family in the aisles!  It’s a nervous time for both the bride and groom, so just remember to keep your gaze on eachother.   Try not to look at the ground while you are walking, and don’t look at the photographer either!
  2. Smile!  A radiant smile is worth a thousand words.  Forget about all the stress of the wedding, forget the nerves, just smile and relish in the happiest day of your lives!  Nothing is more beautiful than seeing the bride smile walking towards her groom, with his eyes shining with tears.
  3. Lower the bouquet!  This is something most brides don’t think about, but make sure you don’t carry your bouquet too high.  It can take the focus off your face and dress, and sometimes look awkward as if you are hiding behind it.  The flowers are beautiful, but don’t let it be the main focal point!  Let yourself shine through!
  4. Sneak a peek at your escort.  One of the sweetest things to see is the bride glancing up at her father, or mother, or whoever is escorting her on the aisle.  There’s just so much love in that little glance, and it’s so nice to see the person who is offering you support.
  5. Take it slow!  Try not too walk too fast down the aisle.  Remember, everyone is trying to get a look at your in your beautiful wedding gown.  It’s better to take that this moment and really live it, because it’s one of the most important moments of your life!  So take your time and relish every moment as a blushing bride!
