Bridal Tips- Getting your Wedding License in Hawaii

Whether you are a local couple or visiting Hawaii for your wedding, there are a few things to note before saying I Do.  And probably the most important thing is to know what you need to get your marriage license here in the islands!  Every state has their own rules and regulations, and Hawaii is no exception.    So here are a few tips for getting your marriage license.

  • Know the rules.  Right now the legal age to marry in Hawaii is 18.  If you are under 21, be prepared to bring a copy of your birth certificate.  And make sure you bring other forms of identification.
  • Both parties must be present.  Both you and your fiancé must appear together to apply for a license.  No appointment is needed but in Hawaii, always be prepared for slow lines.
  • Download the application beforehand.  This makes things go a lot quicker when everything is all filled out before going to the office.  You can download it and find more information and locations here.
  • If you are not local, be sure to get your license at least a few days beforehand to make sure everything is ready to go!
  • Holidays.  If you are planning to get married around a holiday, remember that some state offices will be closed during official holidays.  Call ahead to make sure.
  • Be knowledgeable.  No blood test is required, and there are no state residence or U.S. Citizenship requirements.  Be sure to read all other requirements before applying, and remember to bring in any fees.  Also, the license expires 30 days after being issued.  Good luck and happy wedding!
