Hey brides! One of the questions I most often get as a photographer is – How long to set aside for photos during the wedding? Each wedding is different and unique, and there are many factors to consider such as- will you be doing a First Look? Did you want bridal party and groomsman portraits? There aren’t any hard and fast rules on how much time to set aside, but here is a list a time estimates for a typical wedding. It’s also good to add in a few extra minutes here or there for anything unexpected. Keep in mind that these are estimates for the formal portraits, and it doesn’t include photos of the actual ceremony or reception. One big advice is to talk to your photographer, wedding planner, and bridal party to make sure everyone knows what is going on!
- Getting ready – the last hour of you getting ready would be great to capture some details (invites, rings, dress, makeup, rings, flowers) photos with your girls in robes/guys having drinks, and getting your dress on.
- Family photos- depending on shot list, but for immediate family- around 15-20 min.
- First Look- 10 minutes
- Bridal Party- 30 minutes
- Bride and Groom Portraits- 30-60 minutes, depending on how many photos you wish to have.
- Sunset- 15 minutes
