I figured since I am one who’s always “googling” for tips on everything from pregnancy to photography, why not do one of my own for brides. Once upon a time (a long time ago – lol) I was a bride myself. Add that to all of my past experiences with clients and here’s some tips and tricks:
- Coordinating your own wedding – I was guilty of this at my own wedding and unless you’re superwoman – don’t even try to do it. This is YOUR day and you must enjoy it! Timelines, guest arrivals, transportation, flowers, setting up, decorations and the list goes on… CRAZINESS doesn’t mix with YOUR DAY right? I’ve also seen “family” try to help with the coordination-duties and it turn into a total nightmare. Hurt feelings, favortism and most of all – a LACK OF ORGANIZATION almost led to a total meltdown! When it came down to picture-time….. a STRESSED BRIDE takes STRESSED PICTURES. My recommendation?? If you can afford one – HIRE an experienced wedding coordinator. Ask fellow brides, YELP, interview them and look at their credentials closely. A talented wedding coordinator will work wonders for you on YOUR DAY!
- Not eating – Whether you’re hungry or not… EAT. Whether it be a healthy, protein filled breakfast with some coffee or healthy snacks…. EAT! Once you realize you’re hungry – it’s already too late! I’ve literally seen brides almost pass-out due to dehydration! Why take the chance? Oh – and alcohol… ALCOHOL (if any) comes AFTER THE PICTURES! 😉 Take it from me – DRUNK doesn’t look good in pictures…
- Not trusting your vendor – You’ve met with them, grilled them in interview(s) and done your research prior to your wedding. TRUST the professionals to make your day EASIER! Your vendor should be prepared for anything! And they also should be open to your ideas and suggestions! But beware of “THE LINE”. Your vendor has been doing this for a number of years now. If you ask them “Would you get the shot if I jump off the 2nd story balcony and somersault into the pool?” the vendor should tell you “well YES I would get the shot – but it’s not happening…” Let your vendor guide you through the experience, after all they’ve done this before and this is your first wedding right?? Go along for the ride and TRUST their experience!
Remember, this is YOUR day and you get married ONCE. You want to look back on your photos and remember how much fun it was and how happy you were! Not how frustrating it was because you drank too much alcohol, or didn’t eat before the wedding or didn’t take the vendors advice on NOT taking the pluge off of the 2nd floor… You want to remember it being the HAPPIEST DAY EVER! Cue Disneyland music!!!
