We make a great team.

My 2nd day of shooting with Verena, something more fun and colorful. We ended the night at the top of Nordstrom Parking lot for a few shots. I used my car’s headlights to shine on her. Now I’m not a car person…at all. Before I met Chad I wouldn’t know that I had to change my car oil or how to put air in my tires. So when I used my headlights, I did not know that I should’ve left my car running. So you could guess what happened after we were done…. *click* went my car when I tried to turn it on. HAHA! How embarassing…glad that Verena was a friend of mine. Thank goodness Sears were right below, they jumped us and had my battery changed.

So anyway….here’s the beautiful Verena!

Been sick the past week….you know that type of migraine if you look at the TV or computer screen, it makes the pain worse? Well that was my week. I’m bummed it also fell on to Valentines Day…aka girls day (ha!). We had no reservations anywhere. We thought it best to stay home and cook on such a crazy day..but cook for me while sick? No thanks. It’s just funny how every year we say we’ll stay home to avoid the craziness, but that very night we’ll end up waiting an hour with the crowd.

Oh well, I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day!

Laura’s a fellow photographer from the mainland. She booked me for a nice Hawaii shoot with her boyfriend. On that day, Bob called me telling me that he wanted to make a surprise proposal and to make sure I got it, discussed where, his ideas. I was sooo excited….AND SO NERVOUS! I didn’t want to miss a thing. It turned out so great. Such a beautiful couple. Congrats Laura and Bob! Wish I could photograph your wedding in San Diego too

Female race car driver, model, actress

Verena Mei, Hawaii born turn race car driver came back home to visit. You might have seen her on F&F Tokyo Drift, Rush Hour 2. She drives cars, and now rallies in the snow. The biggest go getter and inspirational person I know. She’s one of those who dreams big….and actually makes it happen. She makes me wanna go back to my ‘big dreams’ list and check them off.

I spent the day with her on a project she wanted to do with Ford cars. Here’s a few shots from the day.

FAQ: Light Gear I use

I’ve had this question a few times now, what lighting equipment do I use? Some ask about my big set up, do I use couple alien bees, softbox, etc… but honestly I actually just use one light when I’m out doing my sunset shot. Most times one, sometimes 2 speedlites. In the beginning, when I didn’t know lights, I got the alien bees set up, but I don’t ever use it. It’s not very mobile, big to carry around and I’d need a battery pack…. HEAVY! I tried it once, I was exhausted…really. I was also worried about the wind knocking it over.

-Canon Speedlite 580exii

-Light filter, I use the photoflex blow up softbox

-Scott Robert Lim’s trigger system, one on hotshoe of your camera, one on flash

-One light stand

I usually have my lightstand 3-5 feet away from the subject. I don’t use an umbrella or huge softbox because it’s windy here, which can cause some damage to your lighting gear. It could work if you bring sand bags, though I can just see the umbrella blowing inside out.

Its my easiest setup. Ofcourse I can add more if I wanted to, but on location I like to bring just 1. If you don’t have a lightstand, bring an assistant. Or you can shoot & hold it yourself….up and to the side….it might work

Sharon and Steve | Kahala Resort

My awesome couple….hot couple…Sharon and Steve married at the Kahala Resort.

I’ve photographed Sharon in the past, my camera loves her. I’ve met Sharon through Athena. Athena would call her the rocker chic. She’s a singer & plays guitar. On her wedding day, Gregg Hammer mentioned Miss Sharon Sanchez being in the Brown Bags to Stardom. I had an ‘a-haaa’ moment, remembering her being in Brown Bags to Stardom because I used to be in it back in high school…. NOT a singer…but our little group used to dance, HA! Good times.

Anyway, congratulations to you, Sharon and Steve, it was an honor being part of your special day!!!! And ofcourse to you Alisa for coming with me. You are awesome!
